Watercolor Portraits
There is no better way to start your heirloom art collection as a new family than by commissioning a work of art to be created live on your wedding day!!
I paint in Pigment & Parchment's signature wild & vibrant watercolor style with a mix between detailed natural realism & more whimsical impressionism.
Portraits are painted on professional grade Arches Cold Press 140 lb. pure cotton, the creme de la creme of watercolor paper that is still made in small batches at the same French mill since 1492.
I use a blend of art tools but my main squeeze is a Sennelier palette full of honey-based watercolors made in France using traditional methods for over a century.
All the materials used are archival & made to last past our lifetimes to pass down to future generations.
I know I am creating one of your most prized possessions & am always honored to be trusted by my clients with such a momentous task.
It is not a responsibility I take lightly. I always show up early, work collaboratively & flexibly with your other vendors, & only leave when the job is done.
Wedding day timelines change on a dime, so though I have time estimates, I am committed to be there for the long haul until your painting is complete & presented to you.
I have a very portable set up so I can move throughout the day to stay in the best spot for guests to view the progress throughout the event.
Live event painting is a fun way to entertain your guests with something they've never experienced before!
I chat with guests & answer their questions the whole night.
I've even been known to let flower girls & ring bearers dab some paint on the canvas so their brushstrokes are immortalized in your painting forever!
Watercolor is one of the most difficult mediums to work in.
Because it's transparent, you pretty much get one shot to get it right unlike other paints where you can just keep adding layers until you get it right.
Watercolor's wild and expressionistic style is also what I love about it, it isn't a 100% controlled medium- it has a mind of its own.
When you trust it, that's when the magic happens.
Watercolor portraits are painted start to finish completely on site & you get to keep it at the end of the night.
No waiting by the mailbox for you!
I present the 18x24 painting in a simple white frame at the end of the night so you can easily display it for the rest of the wedding!
The frame is meant to be a temporary place holder to keep it protected until you newlyweds settle in & have it professionally matted & framed.
I come with everything I need to complete your portrait. I don't even need electricity access, everything I use for lighting is battery operated!
I keep my set up simple & transportable, no event venue is too wild.
I have painted on location on cliffs, beaches, hiking trails, trains, planes, huge theaters, tiny cafes, offices, catamarans, & countries all over the world - I will find the beauty in any location!
Once booked, we'll discuss the moment during your ceremony or reception that you'd like captured in your watercolor painting.
I can even do a portrait of both your ceremony & reception if time allows (we'll discuss your big day's details before booking to ensure I can do two portraits while maintaining the level of quality I deliver).
I have a simple form to keep it easy for you if this is your first time commissioning a portrait.
I will give you a rough sketch of the painting before your event date so you can make sure the composition is what your envisioning.
Let's create an irreplaceable work of art for your new family to start building your legacy.
